Celebration (A. Geršak)

Every day we are closer to the midnight on 31st December, when we will step into the new millennium, year 2000.

If I’m honest I don’t really expect too much from this new year. I just frankly hope, that there will be no more wars and other terrible disasters. I also want, that every child will be happy and everybody will love each other. I hope there will be no hunger and fear in the world and all people will be equal.

I believe, the scientists will discover more and more useful things. But not just things that will help us, also a lot of medicine. I’m sure the smart men will invent medicine against aids and cancer, and people won’t die so easily.

I really expect there will be some changes in year 2000, but only good ones. I hope my beautiful and almost perfect country Slovenia will became even better or it just won’t change and maybe it could be a part of European Community.

No matter what happens in the year 2000, I’m very happy that I live in Slovenia, because it’s a safe and admirable country.

Maja, grade 8 b, Solkan Elementary School

I'm happy and glad to live in my country.

Yeah, we are a really small country.

But I like our country. It is quiet and peaceful and here is a lot of green. There are many trees and forests around us.

I would never change our Slovenia for another country, I really wouldn't, because I like the place where I live.

I'd never live in, let's say Japan, because there are too many people and there is too crowded and not peaceful like in Slovenia.

Well, I think Slovenia is a beautiful country, too.

About the millennium, well I hope it'll be as we young want it.

Denis, grade 8 B

I am glad to live in my country because it's a nice country. From my country I like most its natural beauties, like our forests and mountains. I think that this country is equal to other countries. Every country is nice in its own way. I am accustomed to this country, so I think that I wouldn't like to live in another country.

I hate factories which pollute our natural environment. I think that I alone I couldn't do much. I could live in another country I would chose England. I like English language and I think that England is a nice country. I would never like to live in countries where there is always war like Irak, Kosovo…
So in the new millennium no wars and bad things, let's enjoy what we have...
Andrej, grade 8a

I'm very glad to live in my country, because I think it's a great country. I like the climate, mountains, nature and other things about my country. I think my country is better than other countries in school system and weather. It’s very small and there are only 2 million people. I would like to live in Ireland, because there is a lot of clean and beautiful nature and it's green country. I dislike political parties and big towns in my country, but I couldn't do anything about this. We think that Slovenia is very beautiful and clean country and many tourists come to my country.

I hope it will be like that in the next millennium too.

I'm very glad to live in my country, because here isn't so much crime (for

now). We also have beautiful nature, high mountains in the north and sea and lowland in the south. So, we can ski in winter and swim in summer. I think, that my country is in some ways better then other countries. Many peoples don't know our country so I would invite them to visit it in the next millennium.
