Is your course material ready for publication ?
Read this to find out what you need to do to get your course material into the program.
Overall
Imagine the publication as it would appear in print. This is the goal you are working towards.
The main characteristics are :
Although we may make minor changes to the publication we will not normally make any corrections to your material. We publish 'as is'. If there are, however, a lot of corrections required (spelling mistakes, badly formatted text or graphics) we may ask you to make the corrections and re-submit.
Fonts
You are strongly urged to use a minimum number of fonts, serif and sans serif, font sizes and styles. If we publish in PDF format then in the conversion process all fonts are embedded in the final publication, since your readers may not have the fonts on their systems. If you use a lot of fonts, in different sizes and styles, your publication will become much larger. Not only may this will add to your costs, it may inevitably frustrate your customers if they have to wait for a long time for a publication to download.
Medium
Your material should be in a standard word processed format that we can edit, for example, Word format (Windows and Mac), not PDF. Please do not use features that automatically format sections within the body of the text.
If your material is in another format, or in a language other than English, please contact us to see if we can convert for publication.
Please note that unsolicited documents sent to us are never read. We will give you instructions for sending files.
Structure
Each book in the publication, whether a student's book or teacher's book, should have the structure shown below. Refer to the Terms and Conditions document to find out what we mean by a book and a publication.
A Front page
You provide a front page which shows :
- Title of publication
- Author's name
- Organisation name and logo (optional)
- A graphic image (optional).
Preface page
You provide a Preface Page which provides a statement covering the standard edition and school/institution editions, indicating conditions of use, and reproduction rights.
Introduction Page
Here you are free to write your own 1 page introduction. Identify the target audience, any prerequisite skills and knowledge required information about content, delivery, and duration. We reserve the right to edit this for conciseness. The content of the page is also used in setting up the introduction page in the WebStore.
Contents Page(s)
Contains chapter or unit headings, preferably with page numbers. If customers are permitted to photocopy some pages (eg in a Standard Edition) these pages should be marked 'PHOTOCOPIABLE PAGE'.
Body
Contains chapter or unit content. Page numbering starts here.
Appendices (optional)
Additional material not part of body, for example, answers to exercises if provided in a student's book.
Index (optional)
If provided, you must ensure the accuracy of referenced page numbers
Each publication has a Sampler - a set of pages (maximum 10) that are freely downloadable by potential customers as an invitation to inspect content and to subsequently buy the publication. You may choose the 10 pages for the sampler.
